Class A fires are the most common type of fire and consist of ordinary combustibles such as wood, paper, rubber, plastic or textiles.
Class B fires are those where the fuel is flammable or combustible liquid, such as gasoline, alcohol, varnish or oil.
Class C fires involve combustible gaseous substances, i.e. hydrogen, acetylene, hydrocarbons.

When extinguishing a fire with a dry powder fire extinguisher, additional measures should be taken to cool heated elements of equipment or building structures. It should not be done when extinguishing electronic equipment, computers, and electrical cars.
